Default better cam than 306? Heads?

I'm sure there's been major advances in cam design since my six year old build w/a Comp 306.

My car hovered at 400 rwhp (no NOS) when it was put away 4 years ago. I'm sure there's much more potential in this 396.

The car is street driven but for one purpose only, so as long as it doesn't eat valve springs, I can live with a bigger cam. The engine has a Hydra Rev kit to mitigate the need for ultra-heavy seat pressure.

Also, what is the latest and greatest head for the LT series now? LLoyd Elliot did great work on the LT4 heads and manifold, but how much more is there to be gained w/an aftermarket head? Is there a better manifold that will fit under the hood?

What is a realistic RWHP potential of LT engines today?

Thanks

The Camaro guys really like the 306. But, Lloyd has some new custom grinds that might be a good match to your heads.

That depends on what your goals are. The 306 cam is on the small side for a 396 SBC if you are looking for power in the 6000 plus RPM range.

Define your goals and then contact Comp Cams for a recommendation on a cam. In my opinion you can get more performance with another cam but it will loss some of its street mannors.
