Default Digital Dash Malfunction 87 c4

I am in Australia so want to read speed in kmh. However, the metric / imperial switch has no effect. What is strange is the speed readout changes from mph to kmh when one of the other switches is toggled off.

Is this repairable / affordable to fix or something I should just live with?

Most of the circuits for the digital instrument cluster (DIC) switch panel are looped back to the digital instrument so your issue is most likely with just a poor contact/connection within the switch panel itself and not an issue with the digital cluster. The contacts points for the switches themselves in the DIC switch panel are not serviceable. Sometimes the switches can be move agressively to free up frozen/stuck contact points. Figure out which switches work and which don't. One stuck switch can affect other cluster displays....oil, temp, voltage....ect. As a starting point - I recommend that you inspect, clean & reseat the "small" connector for the DIC switch panel on the digital cluster itself to see if your condition improves/changes. If the orgional problematic conditions continue you may want to look to pick up a replacement "used" but functional DIC switch panel.
