98,000 miles. Only drive occasionally. For a long time it has seemed that it takes more brake pressure than it should to stop, but not unsafe. Had the opportunity for a track day so I took the car to my mechanic for a look-over. He said the front pads were shot, the brakes had been sticking, the brake lines were no good, etc. He did a ton of work, but now the front brakes stick big-time - short drive and the front wheels are hot!! Mechanic says it is the pressure modulator valve, needs replacing. Part # 12506759. List price $1,773 from dealer!
Is this baloney? Is there anything else I can/should do?

If this is a C4 and not a 1998 - Find another shop or maybe a dealership...one with the correct early Bosh ABS style tester and get a second opinion on the system. Get your needed parts from someone parting out a "used" vette.
Find a new mechanic. This one is not doing you any favors.
Sounds like your mechanic is into replacing parts rather than diagnosing the problem. What was wrong with your brake lines? Find a Corvette guy, not an "I can fix anything, show me your credit card mechanic".
had sim problem on my 85 .Brakes would be ok till car warmed up , then brakes would stick.Turns out m/c piston had debris and wouldnt allow piston to return to normal after fluid warmed up .Idle till warm, when car warms disconnect brake master cylinder from booster and tap master cylinder to see if brakes release . My brakes released and turned out to be m/c was bad. You can also turn your adjust rod behind m/c to booster 1/2 turn increments to adjust pedal engagement .Rod should be adjusted to travel approx 1/2 in before engaging m/c to brakes. Good Luck
