Default 2 diff headlight problems & Astro top Issue

I just purchased a low mileage white on red 84. All original w 104k miles. I know it is the redheaded step child of the Corvette universe but the price was less than I have seen decent Fieros going for. Nice paint new tires serviceable interior, runs smooth, cold air and a working dig dash no less. It is a BLAST!

My only prob is the headlights. Neither are working. One makes a gravel sound when plugged in and wont respond to the manual retract ****. (NEEDS A GEAR?) The other will manually move but there is no response when putting power to it. Any Thoughts?

Oh, also the astro top has separated from the frame. Anyone have glue suggestions?

I Love This Car!

I have searched through the threads and cannot find troubleshooting on headlights. Just the sticky above about changing out the gear. If the gear is bad will the manual retract work?

I am getting power to both units, but one is completely unresponsive. The sticky thread is unclear about the differences between early and late designs. I am suspicious that the unresponsive unit has a bad motor, and the other has a stripped gear. My understanding is the early style gear has to be replaced whereas the newer needs only new bushings. Correct?

Thanks for the help!

I believe you are correct about the gears/bushings. Early style actually seems to rarely have a problem. You can usually find the gears or the complete assembly cheap on ebay.

Id pull the headlights completely out of the car and go through them, the gears will need to be replaced at some point and the Astro Top is junk, replace it if you can.And regarding 84s,aint nonthing wrong with that car!
