Will doing a burnout until the tires pop hurt the car. I have a rebuild automatic transmission, D36, L98 motor. I have a burnout contest I want to enter BUT I don't want to kill something in it. Runs great so no issues with reliability.
Your fenders can be damaged if the outside of the tire shreads. It if takes a few minutes to blow the tires, I've seen videos of cars overheating because of the high rpms and minimal air through the radiator. I think it's just better to watch. Save the hp for the track.

One of the cruise ins I went to this year had a burnout contest. One of the guys had a early C4 with a built up engine. He was burning the hell out of his tires for about a minute until I hear this loud bang then everything was silent..His car starts leaking coolant out the bottom for a short while, then I see smoke coming out from under the car and its on fire. This guys car is really starting to blaze now and his hood starts to melt. He's screaming for someone to give him a fire extingusher but nobody is helping and it keeps burning for about 10 minites till the firetruck gets there..TO LATE!!! It was a nice vette to.. So I would say yeah, go ahead burn those tires, it could turn out ok for ya...OR NOT.....WW
waste of tires that aren't cheap to replace...better to watch, not so fun after you're done and realize you've wasted about 50K miles of tire tread in a few short minutes...lol
I don't get it. Yeah, it's your car and your business, but what's so great about beating the hell out of your car and shredding your tires? Although it doesn't take any brains or skill to do this, it sure seems to appeal to the "more dollars than sense" crowd. Call me stupid but...

because seeing who can get from point A to point B, a whopping 1320 feet away first - or who can drive in circles for 500 miles the fastest without totally destroying their car, - or for that matter driving around trying to destroy as many cars as possible before your own car gives out - or pulling a xxx ton load the farthest, - or seeing who can drive cross-country within the confines of the law the fastest, - or WHATEVER - all make so much sense? It's called motorsports. All of them. Anything you can do with an engine and a uh, "car". One makes just as much sense as any of the others. Jet cars aren't nearly as fast as top fuel dragsters, but they get more reaction from the crowds, even when doing something as "stupid" as backing up and burning down an old school bus. Do any of them really make "sense"? Maybe not, but they're all pretty damned fun!
Enter your burnout contest. I have been to hundreds, and the blown-up engine or destroyed car is, in my experience, the exception.
I was asking because of the burnout video from DC.com Patrick blew up two of his cars. A Z06 and a C6. He ran them both hard though and chained them together.
Well the way it sounds, maybe I should switch to a different car sooner than later.
Blown engines from a burn out? Never blew or even came close to blowing up a rustang, then again some people might not shift LOL any motor you keep pegged will blow.
For those afraid get em roasting than shift ! If it bogs down or leaves the line GET MORE POWER.
