My understanding is that the 1984-87 had a 34mm offset while 1988 on has a 56mm offset, meaning a later wheel will ‘sit under’ the car about ¾ inch more. 1984-87 originally used tire size 255/50 VR16 so, if we went with a 3/4 adapter it should work for the C5 rims and tires 245/45/17 F & 275/40/18 R ?
I was also told, please confirm if true that the adapters only work with the original factory wheels up to 1996, 88-96 wheels on the back side have an inset in the hole where the stud comes through making the adapters fit flush.
This is why 88-96 wheels will work and the 1997 and later wheels do not, so the wheel will not fit flush and mount up, the wheel hits the lug nut on the adapter and will not mount??? Again if some can please confirm. Thanks in advance for any guidance that can be provided.
back/day i ran some 3/8'' spacers on a new caprice, street driven (ok, slightly enthusiastic street)...'custom' wheels 'just' argued a bit with casting lumps on the calipers, didn't want possible warranty grief of caliper 'mods"...shortly (couple weeks IIRC) after install, began to 'loose' one or two studs/lugnuts EVERY WEEK...tossed the spacers and cleaned up (messed up) the calipers with a grinder = end of saturday morning stud repair sessions.
