Default Knock, Knock...

Yes its me again wondering whats going on. I have started to modify my timing curves. Got the new ESC module in and still have considerable knock counts and retard going on. What do you guys suggest I do? Add fuel? Pull more timing? Please help a lost soul find his way. Thanks!

Just click on the graph to make it bigger. Thanks in advance.

Where is the knock retard happening-WOT only? or part throttle with heavier loads?
If your blm's are about 128 I'd leave the fuel alone if it's at part throttle. If it's knockin' at WOT-it may need more fuel. Do you have access to a wide band?
Sorry your link didn't work for me-so I'm asking a bunch of questions. Is there audible knock?
I've found that for better fuel mileage I leave the timing high in the lower load areas; going for the least tps reading (amt of throttle) needed at the same mph/ load/ rpm. For WOT I try to just touch the knock sensor once in a while. But when my header was slightly tapping on a heat sheild it sure took a lot out! Hope this helps, and let us know on where it's a knockin.

Link did not work for me either..

is the knock happening all the time? did you remove and replace the sensor? if you took it out and back in you might have it too tight as well

You have knock @ 1600 rpm & what appears to be wot. It looks like you are trying to run 28+ deg advance there - that seems wildly optimistic. Especially since there seems to be no fuel there.

You have knock @ 3700-3900 rpm & what appears to be wot. It looks like you are trying to run 27+ deg advance there. It's not working.

Where did that timing table come from? How does it compare to a stock GM table for the same car?

Guys,
The timing table is straight from the ARAP code. I have not altered the table for that log. Here is what it looks like.

Ski...

It looks like your timing is "on the edge"...I am running a supercharger, and found that The real key is looking at the knock count. Generally through the shifts you may end up with knock "generally" anything under about 3 degrees is really nothing to worry about. When you see the knock count go up dramatically hopefully you lifted the right foot HEH... The 6 degrees that you are seeing looks to me like the shift between 1st and second gear... I have the same problem as well. I have been told this is normal during a shift ONLY. Someone may feel free to correct me if I am wrong. But given the modifications to your car, I would say that you could try some octane booster and see if that will help.
If you look at you timing map and compare it too the timing that you have displayed that will get you in the ball park.

MHO is that as close as you are, I wouldn bother with the timing at all. I might suggest as one of the others mentioned try looking at your knock sensor. In my case with my 96 I went to a LT4 knock module. Which of course won't help you as you have a different ecm. There could also be something like a header rattling aswell that could be also causing you the grief. Ofr the funky fuel thatwe get at the pump.

I hope this helps, feel free to email me if I can help further. I slayed the 11 degree spark knock monster.

Oh almost forgot, you may also just check to see that you aren't running too lean. this could also cause those types of reading. Check your fuel pressure.
Mo

Mo,
Hey thanks for the suggestions. I have it all pretty well straightened out now. Man does it ever make a difference. No where on the map am I over 35*. At high air flow areas I am at 29.2* max. I am getting consistant 12.3-12.5 sec runs apposed to 13.8-14.2 sec ones with the above displayed timing! I know that there is more to be had with the fuel curves, but I am not playing with that until my WBo2 sensor comes and is installed. I am pretty impressed with myself for getting it that good so far. The key is to find that point at which you are reaching max pressure in the chamber and cordinating it with TDC. This will give you max power. Anything too advanced you must oversome the pressure beign created in the chamber and anything not advanced enough will cause the piston to be already moving downward decreasing the maximum available energy. There are other factors as well, but this idea has proven very effective for me. Something a lot a people do not understand when trying to tune there cars timing. If you need this further explained it will take some serious writing, but I can if someone wants it.
