Default SLP 3 cone filter cold-air induction, how does it work ?

Was thinking of purchasing a cold air injection system for increased HP and am considering the SLP Blackwing 3 cone filter system. Does anyone have any experience with this system, in particular did you notice a 20 HP type gain as the manufacturer publishes ?

Not sure what you mean by how it works? It replaces your current filter housing, and air is sucked through the cone filters by the engine.

Don't expect a 20hp gain. 2hp is more likely. Buy it if you like how it looks, not for performance.

I agree and that 2hp gain will be way high on the rev band..you will not feel a SOTP difference. I put an SLP CAI on my '87 when I owned it.

Its got a good look and thats about it. If you're looking for HP, look elsewhere.
The technology is...it uses three cone filters that are re-useable. I've had this unit for five years.
Looks like this:

If you buy it , buy it cause it looks cool. It probably gives you very little over a cut lid with a K&N.

Due to the location of the stock filter it is hard to beat just having a cut lid and a good filter. If I were you I would spend money elsewhere to get usable HP.

The stock lid has louvers in the top part and then there is an angled side which goes to a straight side. Cut the side just below the angled part and you will end up with what is in the picture.

Got mine used, it sounds neat on a 383 when you blip the throttle and looks cool. I only paid 50.00 for it, other wise would have stuck with my cut lid.

There is a cold air induction system involving change the front license plate cover to one with a grill, then drilling a large hole in the foam behind it and cutting the radiator shroud. Then mounting a filter box over the hole you cut in the shroud. A friend that drag raced his L98 did all of that and got no gains in his 1/4 mile trap times.

I also got mine used and cheap and like it for the looks. It also made no difference in my times at the track.

Reminds me of my old '72 Kawasaki 750 with K&Ns. (The sound of sucking air covered up the sound of sucky exhaust!)

I have one built in a ram air unit, I like to think it is better than the cut lid I did.
Worth the money NO! but it is far more than just the 3 cone everyone else has.
