Any track or dyno numbers with the new combination?

STL94,
Thanks for the above post. You just saved me $350 for a ported LT4 manifold.
My original MTI 396 used the stock LT1 intake and never was ported until the recent upgrade to the AFR's. No doubt gave up some power.

On a mail order tune, car dyno'd with a best 440RWHP/436RWTQ. This was with a very rich 11.8-12.4 A/F. Plan to do a dyno tune next month. Some of the Camaro guys feel 15-25 more HP is possible with a good dyno tune and a flat 12.9 A/F. The peak horsepower has moved to 6500 even with the mail order and bad A/F.

I finally removed my ASR entirely and put in a F Body throttle cable since my service ASR problem was holding back throttle with high RPM shifts at the track. The new cable also fixed the AS&M 58TB not opening all the way. Plan to test at a 1/8 mile track with the new set up and no ASR next week weather permitting. I would expect similar numbers as the new Z06 with DR's -- low 7's at 98-100MPH.

Original MTI 396 dyno'd at 409RWHP/415RWTQ when I drove home from Houston in 2001.

Yes, the stock LT1 manifold will match up perfectly with the AFR 195 Eliminator heads, P/N 1031. The Eldebock LT4 intake ports are .175" longer that the AFR heads, the width is the same. The extra length is at the bottom of the intake.

The statement about the LT1 gasket not fitting the LT1 stock heads concerns the width of the intake port on the head. It is narrower than the stock gasket. The reason is the push rod tunnels are huge and the wall of the push rod tunnel infringes the on the port cavity width. The LT1 could never be ported to correct this restriction.

The AFR gasket P/N 6860 fits the eldebrock LT4 intake. It does not match up with the AFR head ports. The gasket port length is .175" longer thanthe stock LT1 gasket.

Hope that clarifies things.

PS I have been confused about this as well.

***Correction*** the extra length is at the top side of the intake port

that's pretty stout. do you have your dyno graph handy to post?

Very good information. Sounds like these are the perfect heads for my mostly street machine. I think AFR should call them lt1 heads to avoid the confusion. They still recommend on their site using an lt4 manifold which is very misleading. Thanks for clearing this up.

Interesting. The AFR intake gaskets perfectly fit my AFR 195 Eliminator Competition Ported heads...

My NOS GM LT4 intake required just a little porting to match the AFR gaskets. It could have been run "as is".

My original LT4 intake which was port matched to the GM LT4 "7777" gaskets did not match the AFRs at all at the top of the port. Hence the reason I sold it with the port matched LT4 heads.

The Edelbrock LT4 intake matches the GM LT4 7777 intake gasket. AFR on their website (and over the phone) was very clear about not using an intake matched to this gasket.

FWIW...
