Default AFR 195 heads

Just recieved my new afr 195's fully cnc'd ported with 65cc chambers. Just wanted to post some obsevations about these heads.

1st- The eldebock LT4 intake matched up perfectly to the afr heads. I recieved conflicting statements about this. It appears that the eldebrock intake was made for these heads. Correction, the port on the Eldebrock LT4 intake is .175" taller towards the roof of the intake.

2nd- The afr casting is very different than the stock LT1 casting. Most notable is the push rod tunnel which is much smaller on the afr. This allows the intake port to be much larger than the stock LT1 head. I am skeptical about the claims that a hand ported LT1 head is just as good as the cnc'd afr's.

3rd- I ordered afr intake gaskets. These gaskets do not match the port profile at all. I mated the stock LT1 intake gaskets and found them to be a perfect match. Yes, that means the stock LT1 gaskets do not match up with the smaller LT1 head ports.

Hope this answers some questions for those who contemplate using afr heads and the eldebrock intake.

thanks for the update.

Ive been considering these for my 93. I have ported LT1 heads, but they are no match for AFRs. I have a couple questions.

1. Do you have any flow #'s?

2. If you dont mind me asking, where did you get these and what did you pay to have them ported.

3. Are these the newer AFR eliminator 195 LT4 heads? or the AFR 195 heads.

If you're looking for a pair, talk to tpi421vette. He hooked me up with a great price.

The bottom end is stock bore with SRP pistons and Eagle light weight rods with full floating wrist pin. The crank is stock.

Stock compression- this was achieved by getting the afr's with 65cc chambers.

Using the Eldebrock LT4 intake with a stock throttle body.

The camshaft is a custom grind from Bullet that matches up with the build. I am hoping to make peak power around 6200 rpm.

Also using 1.6 roller rocker arms from Comp.

1. AFR can provide the numbers. I really cannot remember.
2. Got them directly from AFR. These heads are fully cnc ported by afr.
3. The P/N is 1031

The price was $2,081.00 with arp head bolts and intake gaskets.

Can you explain this statement. I don't follow you. I thought you were supposed to use a stock LT4 gasket with these heads. I'm wondering if my Lt1 manifold would match the ports on the AFR 195 heads.

Here is the link to AFR's site for flow numbers, prices, and all the other questions that could be found with a part number 1031 search.

My AFR SBC 195cc LT Eliminator Competition package head P/N was X1039F. Had them milled to 55CC Believe the 1031 P/N is for the Eliminator Street heads. With the Impala LT1 head gaskets, my 396 LT1 CR is around 11:8.1. Also ordered the AFR SBC LT4 Intake gasket P/N 6860. Had no problems matching up to my ported stock LT1 intake.

The Competition heads include the 8019 valve springs standard and 2.080 std race int valve. They do flow a little better than the street heads.

The only issue with the heads was one of the pushrod holes was too tight.

Stock LT1 and LT4 intakes have the same port dimensions and locations. The only difference is the LT4 intake has more material on the port ceiling for porting.

Yes that is true. I was just wondering if the ports on the AFR LT4 Eliminators are raised enough to warrant getting the LT4 manifold and porting the roofs. Apparently Red Rocket didn't think his lt1 manifold needed any porting in the roof area. So thats good news.

Had Lloyd Elliott port my LT1 intake at the same time the AFR heads were ordered as he lives nearby. He knew that I was putting on AFR 195 heads. Not sure if this enters into the picture.

Jim "96GS#007" Mason sold his ported LT4 intake and installed a stock LT4 intake with his new AFR Eliminators. I'm pretty sure sure he said it was a very close match.

Red Rocket,
I guess Lloyd just ported the roofs a little. On your competition heads they recommend the 6860 gasket. On the 1031 street port heads AFR recommends the LT4 gasket so it appears yours are taller runners than the street ports.

STL94,
Thanks for the above post. You just saved me $350 for a ported LT4 manifold.
