I'm not certain about the 85, but my 86 with auto, z51, and 3.07 has a Dana 44. The item "G44" appearining on my RPO sheet indicates this. Does this mean that all 3.07's are Dana 44? I don't really know, but if you search, there are a few web sites out there that give detailed RPO codes for our cars. The "Black Book" only has a cursory listing.
Standard gearing for the 85 auto was 2.73, with 3.07 available as RPO option G92. All manual equipped cars were 3.07.

you dont have a D44, neither do i, you have a D36 also
OK, I stand corrected. Apparently the hobbiest web site I got that RPO from was wrong. Here however, is an excerpt from the TPIS website that's some good stuff.

Ratio RPO Ratio RPO
2.59 GM1 3.07 G87

graemus,
Even your own chart (if it were correct) contrdicts what you said.
Dana 36 axles..................Dana 44 axles
Ratio RPO......................Ratio RPO
2.59 GM1......................3.07 G87
2.73 GU2......................3.33 GT7
3.07 G44......................3.45 GM3

I inserted the dots to better separate the numbers for ease of reading. Your chart shows the G44 to be a 3.07 ratio in a Dana 36 axle. Not the Dana 44 you thought you had. According to this chart a code G87 would be a 44 axle with 3.07 ratio. What made you think you had a 44 after looking at this chart? In actuallity, the ratio codes do not indicate the axle model. Ignoring the the mis-labling of the columns, all of these ratios ARE correct, except for one. G87 does NOT designate any particular ratio. G87 is "Gear, Ring 8.50 Inch". To someone that knows that the Dana 44 has an 8 & 1/2" ring gear, G87 means Dana 44.
