Default C4 fuel cell

Im looking to put a fuel cell in my C4 in place of the factory tank. Id prefer about 15 gal with a sump. The dimensions of the stock tank location dont make it very easy. Im wondering what others have done. Any body got pics of a clean installation?

I put a 5 gallon cell in. I'll try to get pictures soon. It would be very hard to put a 15 gallon in. There are only 10" or so from the bumper support to the fiberglass storage bins. I think the 15 gallon cells are 14" deep or so.

Stock tank is approx 13" x 13" at it's largest dimension.
If you loose the bumper support you have plenty of room for larger.16" from rear bulkhead to backup lights and almost same in height

I don't think you would want to put a fuel cell in front of the rear lights without protection from the bumper support. If the car gets tapped from behind or backs into a wall, you had better have your fire suit on.

I've been thinking of this for mine too. I remember one install with some custom cro moly tubing welded in for mounting the cell.

Is that the explanation of the difference between fuel Cell and Gas Tank?

Dude, unnecessary....

"Fuel Cell" is the topic, can one not ask a simple question in your world? Since when did asking a question about the topic at hand become a Hijack? BUT your attack on me could be viewed as a hijack....but don't worry...no one noticed at all.

Oh your so clever! You must be proud of your expert ability to ridicule people. Since your so clever, point out where I said you shouldn't ask a question. Oh that's right, I didn't. I asked you to post a separate thread for your question. Hijacking of a thread is against the forum rules, I guess you need to cultivate some social bonds with the moderators.

I am hoping no one runs into me on the strip
Have all the rear of car apart; will try to get some clearance measurements with bumper support in place
Picking it would have to be a custom made cell as you have plenty of length but little depth

Asking the difference between a fuel cell and gas tank would help the dimension differences. SO it was related IMO

no one asked but CHILL OUT

Melrose makes a kit to mount a fuel cell in a C4. They're very proud of it so be ready to pay for it.

Kind of hard to explain. A fuel cell is typically, but not always, filled with special foam to prevent sloshing of the fuel. It will also typically have a sump area for the fuel line connections. Usually they are equipped with AN style fittings. They are, again typically not always, lighter then a stock fuel tank due to being made of different materials. They also usually, depending on the manufacturer, equipped with formed-in ridges, valleys, bosses, etc for mounting in various locations and orientations.

The differences in types usually boils down to cost and functionality.

Good grief fellers! Ease up. The man wanted to know the difference between a "fuel cell" and a "gas tank". Googling "Fuel Cells got me lots of useless information about hydrogen storage in vehicles.

To my limited way of thinking a gas tank is an OEM designed fuel container that is intended to optimize fuel storage and passenger safety within government standards and the space available within the car. They always (in modern gas tanks) have a means of measuring remaining fuel volume electrically.

A "Fuel cell" is an aftermarket designed container that is intended to hold a limited amount of fuel (Usually much less than the stock gas tank) where one must configure the vehicle for this container to fit, that offers a fairly rugged and safe means of causing fuel to leave in sufficient volumes (by way of various inside diameter connectors and fittings). They often have return lines port available and may or may not have the means to measure remaining fuel electrically.
