Default Anyone running 4.56's

I'm changing the pinion bearing and thinking of changing to 4.56 with 6 spd LT1. What RPM would I be at going 75? Mostly around town so will only be on Interstate a little. Looking for that stoplight pickup - thoughts and idea's.

4:56 IMO would be overkill for a mildly modded LT1. Not saying it cant be done and be alot of fun but 4:10s would suit a mildly modded 6 speed much better. That being said, I have 4:10s and wish I had went with 4:30s but mine is cammed and revs to 6500rpms, rev limiter set at 6700. Not a big difference and certainly not enough to change it out now.
FWIW, I think these 6 speed cars should have come from the factory with 3:73 with 4:10s an option. There is very little penalty to having 4:10s. At interstate speeds I'm at or just under 2k rpms in 6th gear.

Arent most guys that go to 4.56 & up gears are trying to cross the finish line at their peak power? Like fine tuning the gearing. In the past guys would run these short gears b/c the wide slicks were so tall, there wasn't drag radials in every size.

Yukon Gear offers a 4.56 ratio R&P for the D44HD - but you'd have to grind the crap out of the case. I had to grind on mine just a little to fit their 4.10 ring gear in - as it almost touched.

here's a link to the 4.56 gear.

depending on the situation you may be able to have the ring gear turned down on its outside edge.we have removed as much a 1/2 inch of overall diameter off ring gears to get them to fit in some of the offroad buggies we build at the shop where i work.the only problem is that you are limited to only one or two of the acceptable drive/coast patterns.

I think that is too much gear for a LT-1. All you will do is spin the tires in 1st gear, and run out of revs before you know it. I run 4:10's in my Stock LT-4 and have to be careful of excessive wheel spin at rolling start in 1st gear. And that is with 315 rears.
