Hi I need converters to hook up the headers on my 93 corvette. I'm looking for round 4" high flow converters. I've looked at the Random tech 141-27000 universal cat. A metal matrix type cat [241.00 each] Kind of pricey though. Are there any other good quality cheaper cats I could use? I understand some of the cheap converters skimp on the amount of costly metal used inside them. I want a good quality set that will last. What do you think of dynatech? The problem with them is they come in 3" dia and my borla exhaust is I beleive 2 3/4" dia. Thanks Tim
These metallic substrate catalytic converters feature a stainless steel shell and are only 4" in diameter and 11-1/2" long. The PowerCAT outflows both stock and other "hi-flow" conveters while still performing its job.
Thanks So you like the Dynatech powercats? I have since called Borla and found my system is a 2 1/2" pipe and Dynatech does make that size also. So I might try them. Thanks Tim
I'm using Stainless works on mine. It looks like their 3" in/out 4" body start at $190. It looks like they have the 2 1/2" in/out 3" body but they got pricey. I didn't see the 2 1/2" 4" but I'll bet they have them for about the same as the cheaper ones above.
Those look nice but pricey. I like the 2.5" dia one with 3" body for limited space use. I plan on mounting converters myself. With my Borla system I was told you have to cut and move the whole front part of system to rear to get enough room to mount converters in front. With those limited space converters maybe I wouldn't have to do that. Thanks Tim

I'm confused ( btw that's not hard to do) my 93 hooks up just fine with the cats up front right where the old ones were just behind the headers. Maybe it would be easier to cut your pipes and fit the cats in the front than in the back. I had to take mine to a muffler shop to get the finish work done.
I have been told my long tube headers are going to be longer than stock exhaust manifold and cat so I won't be able to mount them where stock cat is now.I was told there is not enough room for the 4" body of cat after where the headers end. that the first muffler [Borla uses a large front muffler two pipes in two pipes out type]needs to be moved back and cats mounted where that muffler was. I'd be glad to hear if it can be done any other way though. Thanks
I'm not familiar with the Borla setup. What brand of headers are you using? Maybe others who have used the same kind can explain what they have done. All LT's are longer than the stock manifolds but the cats are shorter. On mine it all fits comfortibly with room to spare.
AFAIK, Borla is the same. The only difference is the muff. If I am wrong, someone correct me. I have TPIS LT headers and they have no pre-cats on them. There is a cat where the main cat used to be but that is it.
Corvette central, as I'm sure others do, sells a cat for precats and one without precats. Thats the route I would take if you are going to put a cat on it for street use.
I have Exotic Muscle headers. I thought that Borla's first muffler was not a pre cat but a resinator type chamber where the gases from both pipes mix together to equalize the pressures and quiet things down a little bit. This chamber is very long almost 3.5 or 4 feet long. I'm sure I could mount one of the small 3" body cats listed up front but not sure I want to. They are more money and being smaller I wonder about them lasting as long as the 4" ones
Random Techs are more often noted, but Dynatech and Magnaflow are mentioned allot too.
I have a Flowmaster exhaust and its unique in its size, 2 1/2 inch pipe, and the resonator is right up at the y portion of the exhaust, so with an automatic things are tight.
Well I see they were correct in telling me the first resinator in borla system needs to be moved back. It sits right where your cats are in picture posted . Thanks now I know for sure how I have to do it. Tim
