Default Help On my 84 engine dies

HI,

I have an 84, and so far i have replaced spark plugs, plug wires, ignition coil, ignition module, and fuel pump.. THe problem is that it starts up then after 10 to 30 seconds it shuts of. . Somehow the ECM or something cuts of the fuel supply and spark, because it shuts of all of a sudden.. Oh i have also replaced my alternator because it was bad.. Any ideas? I would gladly appreciate it.. Thanks to all

After it dies you need to figure out whats missing-fuel or spark.
Take the air cleaner off, watch the fuel being sprayed in, does it spray after it dies? No fuel, get a noid light to check for injector pulse.
Check for spark after it dies, you can use a inductive timing light, watch the flash after it dies. No spark, time to test coil, ign. module, pick-up coil, ect. Good luck.

Check your grounds, there are some hidden ones on the heads at the firewall side. Sometimes just loosening up then retightening them up works. I you think its the ECM, try tapping it w/ your hand to see if you can make any change. I dont know alot about the securtity system from the factory, You could try to remove the fuse for it, it's behind the center panel for the idiot lights. Good luck, Happy New Year.

Default Stall after start

A few years ago, I owned a 84, Z51 with 4+3 Doug Nash Transmission. It ran very nice and had no mechnical problems. But I purchased a shop manual.

I still have a 1984 factory Corvette Shop manual (Silver Cover). On page 6E2-54

- Make sure hot air tube is connected to air cleaner.

- Check proper operation of THERMAC

- Check for proper operation of IAC System.

- Check PCV valve for proper operation bu placing finger over inlet hole in valve end several times. Valve should snap back.

- Check EGR operation.

- Check for A/C clutch signal to ECM if stall occurs with A/C "on" (terminal 21 of ECM white connector) It should read battery voltage with A/C On amd compressor engaged.

- Check for overcharged A/C system.

- Check for high A/C head pressure could be caused by inoperative engine cooling fan.

- Checked for plugged or restrictive fuel lines. Fuel filter.

- Check for weak spark from faulty ignition coil.

I hope that this information helps in getting your car running.

Check your oil preasure sensor. If it is broken or reads 4 PSI it will shut off your fuel pump to protect engine. That function is bypassed in the initial startup and could be why she only runs about 30 seconds.Just a little different angle to look at. Oil preasure sensor is at rear of engine by distributor.
Good luck,
Woody
