since i'm fairly new to the Corvette world, i want to make sure my 84 is up to par and that everything is in place with the proper hardware.
first off, the right headlight is not opening when the hood is closed. i disn't see anything in the way. perhaps i'm missing something. anyone see something i'm not:
next is this little black box..looks like it may be a relay..what is it and what do the proper fasnters or scres look like to mount it:
is this resistor supposed to be in place..looks kinda odd with exposed wiring:
something doesn't look right here (other than the disconnected underhood light) am i wrong?:

This looks like the fan relay located on the driver's side inner wheel well. These are held in place by simple plastic push pin rivits. You can get a couple at your local GM dealer or the local Napa store.

Check out the Sticky by Schrade at the top of the page on how to repair your headlights....
as a note, i'm not sure how much force is needed to hang one of the lights up..maybe a wire..i was thinking it may be hanging up on the overflow bottle..
It looks like the headlight cover has a busted place right where mine did. The hood prop was bent the wrong way, and the headlight was coming in contact with it. Are you bending the hood prop forward or toward the rear of the car? It is supposed to go toward the rear.
IMHO the electrical has nothing to do with your problem. Something solid is in the way.
Looking at the first picture it looks about the same as my 89, which did exactly the same thing you are describing. I moved the over-flow hose clamp rearward and this solved my problem. It's looks like there is the same threaded hole on your rail about 2 inches back from where it's secured now. Just move the clamp back and try to keep the clamp "twisted slightly" towards the engine as you secure to bolt.
I suspect that the headlight motor is on its way out and doesn't have the capacity to open the headlight fully with the hood closed but with the hood open, gravity is helping it out. Have you checked for restrictions by having some one pull the lights on while you stand by the right headlight and assist it a little when it stops?
Just have a friend pull the light switch while you stand near. As the bucket turns, help it along and see if just a little push from your hand will allow it to finish. If so, then it is the motor itself getting weak.
If something is binding it, you'll know right then.
