Default new ideal???

I just bought a 95 lt1 and was thinking about doing the TB by-pass. Could I just take the hose from the radiator and connect it to the metal part of the hose by the valve cover and get rid of the 3" to 4" rubber hose and not use the by-pass coupling?? I figure it would be 2 less clamps to go bad. Has anyone done this???

Mines been like that for more than 5 years with NO PROBLEMS. However, don't expect any seat of the pants improvements.

On a 95 there is a little rubber elbow connecting the steam pipe to the throttlebody and on the other side there is a rubber hose that goes to a t on passenger side of the radiator. Pics should not be needed.

Just remove coolantl hose from passenger side of Thottle body ...remove the elbow from the steam tube and install coolant hose from passenger side on to the steam tube. (this will remove the coolant flow from the Tbody. Some say it will improve horsepower .. I did the mod IOT make removing the TB easier. If you live in cool humid areas I'd leave it since GM did it IOT stop TB icing. I did not experience TB icing even in stupid cold weather in Colorado Springs since the air is so dry.

I want to reiterate I believe this is pretty much useless as a performance mod however, as OP remarked it helps remove a couple of hoseclamps and a rubber elbow.

In this picture you can see the coolant hose going over the top of the AC accumalator and to the steam pipe (metal pipe) at the front of the passenger side fuel rail cover. It does get rid of a short hose and two clamps, so maybe a few less places to leak. Performance gains, if any, are very, very minimal.

I would have tried a mod like that in the past to eek out any possible hp gain, but I like to try to look stock for the smog ****'s- especially on a car that is within 10 hp of being stock anyhow.

The other reason is that every now and then you find yourself in a freezing climate and are glad you didn't change the thermostat or anything related. been there done that with iced up carbs, cars that wouldn't start at 10 degrees or ever reach temperature.

The by-pass will have no affect on the engine operating temperature. Factory spec is a 185*F t/stat, but the engine fan operating parameters are why they run hotter than most cars.
Specification is fans on low at 227*F and 236*F for hi fan speed. GM did it this way to reduce emissions and further warns that up to 240*F is ok, but at 260*F shut the engine off and let it cool. Hope this helps.

Could be. I get the numbers confused at times. I went with a custom tune on mine and it stays about 190 to 210*F no matter what, even at the track.

There are other fan control options and the best other than a custom tune is probably the one sold by Corvette Central, MidAmerica, or one of the Corvette specific supply houses. Check their websites.
