I have a problem with my 89, the car does not want to start after sitting for any length of time. Once the car is started it will restart just fine. I thought the car had a cold start injector but after checking the manuel,I was wrong, now I have not check to see if the fuel system is hold pressure because I do not have a fuel gauge. What would your opinion be for this problem because the battery is getting run down trying to start the car......
Re: Bad or Leaking Injectors?????? (Brett Richmond)
Leaking injectors would have the opposite effect that you are having.
Leaking injectors make the hot start very hard and the cold starts easy.
When the car is hot, you don't need additional fuel to help start it. So the extra fuel is really flooding the engine and takes a while to crank and start.
I would just about bet my life on an injector problem. I had the exact same problem with my 88 IROC. The only time it would fire right up was the first time of the day. Any other time it would crank forever and smell like a refinery for a couple of minutes.
I recently replaced my injectors with Accel 23# and it starts just like it was brand new now. I think you will find that is where your problem is.
Hope this helps you out.
