As many of you know I just went through a cam swap that didn't work out very well. I redid/rechecked everything and finished it up this past Saturday. I drove the car probably 50 miles total since Sat. On my last run to town it seemed fine although when I turned the car off and got out I smelled a distinct odor of gas. To late to mess with it so I didn't. I went out just a minute ago to crank it up to get some reading off the Tech1. Well guess what, the D*m* thing wouldn't crank. It has fuel pressure and it has spark. I've been having possible VATs issues every since I had these PCM's (yes two of them) retuned for the cam.
Is there a feature in the VATS that will keep the car from cranking? Sould I send one of the PCM's back off and have the VATS disabled?
Sorry for the length of this but I had to explain as much as I could.
OK Steve I read it but the starter is turning over so it would seem it's not a Vats issue just like Pete said.
There is a major gas smell coming form the engine bay but no sign of any leaks. I did change the FPR with one from Autozone. Maybe I should put the old back on. It acts almost like it's flooded.

just do a check of the FPR, you don't have to take the thing off. But I have read other threads here that had your symptoms and flooding smell that it was the FPR.
Until you do a fuel pressure check/diagnosis your not going to know.
Can you pull the vacuum line off the FPR and see if there's gas in that?
Also, take the intake duct off and open the TB to smell for gas. If it's strong there I'd suspect leaking injectors.
Smelling gas outside the car sounds to me like you have a fuel leak though. Gas line, gas line fitting/o-ring bad, fuel filter? Pinched line?
There is some gas just below where the vacuum line goes into the manifold. I had the vacuum line plugged into the upper vacuum fitting. I looked at an old picture I had taken and it was in the lower one. Is there different amount of vacuum on these two fittings? Maybe the diagram is busted in the FPR. I'll change it out tomorrow and see if that is it.
I don't know that year vacuum system but if the diaphragm ripped there should be gas right in the vacuum line. The gas usually stays in the line though. Maybe the FPR cap is cracked or loose?
I got another FPR put it on, no dice. Just by chance I thought maybe ICM died. Got one of those, no dice.
It is trying to fire but not at the right time. After I crank it and then stop cranking it chugs kind of like the old cars used to do when they would diesel but not that long or that bad. I'm getting spark on the #4 cyl but I don't know if it's at the right time or not. I'm thinking maybe this old opti I put back in might have died on me. What do y'all think?. Once again I just drove it home Sunday, cut it off then went to start it Monday and no go. Just like that.

We really need a scanner on there. Something is definitely hiding real well.
When you try to start it Hold the gas pedal to floor or open the throttle blade open, while cranking, the plugs probly are wet. That's why you smell the gas. It's better to remove all the plugs though.
