Default Vibrating car

while driving my car I tend to get a terrible vibration that wants to tear the car in half. At first I thought it was the tune but I checked the timing and it's at safe levels. When I rev the engine in neutral it responds well and smooth.

However in neutral I can hear a terrible rattle from my transmission which goes away when I put my foot on the clutch. This leads me to believe that the input shaft bearing on my 4+3 is gone. Would this cause a vibration in the car?

The terrible rattle is the throwout bearing....when you push the clutch it engages that bearing and it is not able to rattle.

Your "new" vibration is most likely a Half shaft u-joint.....simple fix and if you haven't already swapped them, it won't hurt to change them out for good measure and then see if the vibration goes away.

The Throwout bearing is a much much harder deal. It is a major operation to get to that clutch....and you may want to spend $300-$400 on parts are replace the clutch if you go that far into it

Do you want to throw something at me yet?

tbh not really, was aiming at a zf6 swap using a Howe TOB anyways.

as for the half shafts after my zf6 swap if the vibration is still there I'll swap the u joints. uhm where can I find me some of those?

Thanks

Wow...I was worried you didn't want to spend the ~$300

But...first things first. I'd look at the Half shafts now and the tranny later.

The conventional wisdom is the Spicer u-joints being the best......but I just bought (listen carefully) the larger diameter u-joints from Kragen. I guess they are fine..but what do I care? I'm only running about 170 HP through mine.....

Once you figure out that you only need to take the wheel off to get the Half shaft out....you'll feel better about addressing the u-joints first.

Now I feel like I scolded you..........LOL........

Do you have a ZF6 already located?

I just redid my Super T10 and O/D unit...but I was really tempted to get a ZF and be done with the DNE 4x3....but I shouldn't complain...it's been good.

I had contacted Bill from zfdoc earlier this year and he informed me that they had new units for 1450 shipped. The price may have changed since then but I've been saving my pennies up for that, just need another 300 to go lol. Though I do know that wont be the end of the conversion lol.

soon to be for sale is a 4+3 with a good working overdrive :P

Dont just consider the ZF transmission in your swap.

Its not as great a transmission as most CF member tend to think. While its gears are bulletproof, its synchro's arent.

And if you have to have someone tear it down to replace the synchros it will cost you thousands.

Id instead consider the T56. Theres plenty of history of it holding up behind insanly modified f-body motors and dont forget, it comes stock with the dodge viper (v-10).

Its also at least 30 lbs lighter than the ZF and every pound counts.

yeah, I would go T56 but there's a lot more involved than with the ZF.

^^Yeah, that is what My tranny guy said about the ZF.....not so much about the Synchros, but He said while they are running they are great...but the tolerances are so tightly designed that the ZF is a bear to rebuild.

He shuddered in fear when I mentioned the Tremec
