As of yesterday my driver's side window wont go up or down when i press the button, but the window slides down as if the lift is at the bottom and i can hear the motor running when I do. I was on my way to my gf's house and i was at the toll it it rolled down normally but it had trouble getting back up so i had to help it up, then when my gf and I left it wouldnt roll down so i had to help it down, now it just slides down as mentioned above. How do I fix this?
Sounds like the belt is broken and will have to be replaced.
I have an 84 and the same thing happened to me. Ended up buying the belt from Ecklers and took it to an autoglass company to replace it. It's a bear to do it yourself.
What you have is called the "ribbon" style regulator, in mid '85 they changed to a scissors style that is much much better.
You can get a kit that has both side regulators and the Rubber seals for the glass for ~$250 if I remember correctly.
The Job takes about 2-3 hours to DIY and it is easy cheasy lemon squeezy. You merely need to use a template (provided) to drill two small holes in the bottom of your door to mount the scissor reg.
You really will like this upgrade....I only did my driver side and it is so much nicer having a window that actually rolls up within seconds rather than a 24 hour period
