Default Strange Hesitation please help!!!!

I have a 94 Vette 6 speed. Just recently it developed a hesitation under load. At wot it hesitates some time alot sometimes hardly noticible. It idles perfect and and when you give it gas at idle its very smooth. Now I have a question im not too familier with arcing spark plug wires. What exactly does that look like. I thought it might be that and changed the passenger side wires but still have to do the driver side but need some help with that. At neght when i give it gas i see like electricity running through the wires near the spark plugs and at the middle where the wire holders are at. Is this normal? The new wires are doing it as well. Any help would be apreciated. thanks.

To update i went out and tried the car at wide open throttle and it hesitated the whole time. 1st gear was good with a slight hesitation at high rpm the second I hit 2nd it felt like I had a constant governer on my car limiting the power it hesitated throughout the entire rpm range.

What looks like electricity "leaking" out of the sparkplug boots where it connects to the sparkplug is normal. This phenomenon is normally seen only in very low/no light. It is know as a "corona". When removing the sparkplugs you will notice a band of clean area where there is no dirt. It is not electrical leakage. Look on wikipedia for an explanation if interested.

The sparkplug wires should not be arching anywhere. If they are, they are bad.

I'd start with good plug wires, spark plugs, and perhaps a new optispark since they're known for problems.

to be honest yes i did about a week before. I tried avoiding the optispark as best I could but it might have gotten wet. and no recent motor work has been done its relatively stock.

i just got new plugs as well. instead of replacing the whole optispark would just the cap and rotor be sufficient? How about the ignition coil? should i replace that too?

Cap and rotor will be sufficient is cap and rotor are faulty. If the low voltage side is bad (IE optical sensor...replacing cap and rotor will not be sufficient)

How's your fuel pressure ,coil, any codes?

Mike

with Mike, check for codes. Also, how's your injectors? Original? Changed gas stations recently? Are you running 93 octane gas?

I have very similar problems in my vette. Stutters at low revs. As the RPM starts to increase it smoothes out.

My first guess was the fuel injectors, as currently the stock injectors are on mine, 17 years old, and Ive read they are no where near as good as the new BOSCH IIIs and develop isssues

Ive ordered a set of injectors from fuelinjectorconnection so hope it helps. Will let you know how it goes.

If you tore everything down to get to opti just replace it-no sense in just replacing the cap & rotor when your there. The opti is also your cam sensor as well. Also there should be NO arcing out of wires & if new wires are arcing they are defective/bad.Fill an empty spray bottle full of water & mist spark plug wires checking for "leaking" spark.Get quality wires not cheapes.First fix arcing wire problem before doing anything else

Try disconnecting the EGR vac hose, then test drive. Can cause part throttle stumble if bad!

For plugs, I really like the NGK TR-55 Double Platinums.
