This is definitely a good starting place with the routine stuff. I would as said check the fuel pressure and FRP as well. I would also take a look at the TPS (throttle position sensor) and check the voltage off the center wiper for a smooth transition from 0 to 5 volts.

After all that then I would probably zero in on the opti as you do have some classic signs of it being defective.

I would put the injectors last on my list as those year cars have injectors that hold up very well unlike the earlier vetts of the 80s.

I just wanted to comment that here in florida we had a cold front for about a week. within that week ive head minimum hesitation as the car has stayed at about 175 degrees. Even though i can feel something is not right the hard hesitation is gone. Our cold front is gone now and the car performs the same until about 200 degrees it then progressively hesitates worse and worse as the temps rise. It hesitates on light, moderate and wot. As I stated before im gathering up parts to change for next weekend. Ive bought new bosch spark plug wires, bosch platinum plus spark plugs, purolator fuel filter, BVD ignition coil an i ordered a new gm water pump and a new msd opti. Anything else you guys want to suggest? Ill be running a diagnostic this week to see if I have any codes. The car has 150,000 miles and ive only had it a year and its unknown to me what has been replaced. So all this to me is routine I think stuff that should be replaced anyway. By the way my carruns rich what could be the reasons for that? my car is stock except for the exhaust and an open airlid.

im not sure thats why ive been posting here. Most cases its the opti. Ijust so happened to have wet mine and it started hesitating a week later. But like mosta people have posted it could be many different things thats why im changing more than just the opti.

I've got a similar hesitation problem that developed a few weeks ago. I have tested all the components listes in this thread, plugs, wires, ICM, coil, TPS, etc and believe my problem is with the opti. I'm tearing down the car to do the opti and waterpump this week and will let you know how it turns out.

As a heart attack. Just exactly what does this "sensor" sense?

What happened to the original post?

This sensor & distributor assembly has a optical sensor that measures the position of cam/crank.It sends signal to pcm that lets it know precise location of cam/crank.From 1992 to 1995 the opti was the cam & crank sensor as well as the distributor. The 1996(obd 2) vette had a cam(opti) & a separate crank sensor that mounted on side of timing coverGlad to help

Did you ever get your car to work right? Do you happen to know what it was? I was just curious, because mine is doing the exact same thing. I have a 94 with 15,000 miles.

Well i bought the new opti from a forum member about a week ago. Im going to be doing the job soon ill let you know. Im sure mine got wet because it started doing it after I cleaned the engine. My car hesitates the most at low rpms at high load and when the car is over 200 degrees.
