Default Question

got a 84 vette with a dash problem, problem is that the dash wont light up some time and it works but it stays really dim which makes it a pain to see a night. I hit the dash some times and and it comes on but goes off eventually,

If anybody has any knowledge about this please tell me

The lamps are halogen and get very hot and they are in a socket that turns 90 degrees into the rear circuit board and makes contact directly to the copper foil on the circuit board. THERE is where the problem usually is, the heat blackens and oxidizes the solder on the copper foil and this makes a poor connection. I recommend you not bang on the cluster. The cluster needs to be taken out, and the socket cleaned and circuit pads they contact cleaned. The dash normally dims in low cockpit lighting but not so far that you have difficulty seeing it. Try rotating the headlight **** to brighten your dash. If no luck, clean the socket/circuit board.
