Ok I've been reading posts on here for hours about replacing th u joints on a half shaft......What ACTUALLY has to be done to accomplish this.....I've been told everything everything from taking the rear assembly apart to just taking the straps off the u joints...MY PROB MAY NOT BE THE HUB....but I know the u joints are shot
If I have to take it apart anyway I'll just put a hub in while it apart

Only I undo the outer chamber arm bolt so doesn't upset alignment

Once the halfshaft is out, just remove the three T55 Torx bolts. My personal advice is this....they aren't as hard to change as some people would have you believe. Use a NEW, good quality torx socket, PB Blaster, a breaker bar, and LOTS of patience and you will be fine. Brace the Torx socket so it stays fully seated in the bolt and straight, and apply even pressure.

My biggest issue was retorquing the axle nut to 200 ft lbs. My 5'7" 150 lb frame wasn't quite up to the job. My burly neighbor lent a hand, for which he earned a 6 pack of Heineken and my eternal gratitude

almost positive it's 36mm. i didn't have that size when i did my 85, so i just went to autozone. since its a tool i will probably only use a couple times, i really didn't need a premium quality socket. it really helps if you have a 1/2 drive impact wrench and an air compressor -

And the reverse.
Age and rust takes its' toll. Be sure to crack the nut loose while the wheel is on the ground unless you have a rattle gun.
Real bummer when you get it all apart and can't crack the nut .Mine took 6ft of water pipe on the breaker bar to get it loose

When I recently did the rear bearings on mine they were so shot, the 36mm axel nut was finger tight, I was able to screw it off by hand!
