Default Oil Temp

Does anyone know the average operating temperature for the oil of an L98,
mine keeps rising and can get up to 230F which seems kinda high to me.
Thanks

my L83 runs about 230-232F. I thought that was OK...it has to at least be hotter than 212F to burn off all the water vapor in there.

230 is a tad warm. These cars were made to run hot from the factory, so you shouldnt be too alarmed by that. However, it really is too hot for the engine to get it up to 230F. So, install either a 160 or 180 thermostat, a fan switch, clean off the front of your radiator (theres alot of dirt cloggin it up), and think about getting someone to burn you a chip to make your fans come on sooner. The immediate thing you might want to do is be sure youre running synthetic oil, it can take that high temp much better.

I am just about to change the oil, maybe I'll try the synthetic oil. I already have a 180 degree thermostat installed.
Thanks for the feedback

Actually, 180+ degrees for a sustained run will remove moisture. 180 is regarded as the target temp to stay above in order to remove moisture :)

Holy Coefficients of Friction, Batman!... You're not already running synthetic?

Dump that Dino juice and put in some Mobil 1 asap! :yesnod:

I bet your oil temp might come down some with Mobil 1, just maybe...

Don't worry till you get over 250, the car will tell you when it's getting too hot, and I don't mean by dying! There is supposed to be some kind of warning(on LT1 anyway)

While in FLA last month, I had temps up to 249 from sitting in traffic, coolant got up to 230.

Mobil 1 is supposed to be good up to 300 degrees.
