Looks like I MIGHT have to change out my opti-spark. I want opinion from you out there. Since the tool box is open should I dig alittle deeper and slide a LT-4 Hot came in. I have a '96 LT-4 CE thats bone stock with 71k on it. Any input from those that been there done that would be helpful.

How long do you want the car out of service?
IIrc a cam change means the intake and at least valve covers have to come off.
Then there is the long list of "While I am doing this why not do this other thing.
Mines been down for 4 weeks where if I just did the heads it would have been a weekend
Time isnt a issue, Its been down a weak now since I was towed home, Still need to do more troubleshooting. I dont drive it all the time.Just thinking of adding the cam while Im (almost) there. Looking for input.

Well if you want to do a cam, you might as well go all the way and do the heads.
Look at some of the combinations that have been talked about here in the last few weeks.
I have to stay "stock" so a cam was not on my list when I replaced my opti a couple years ago.
I wouldn't start modding if there was something wrong with my car...IE if you are not sure its the OPTI, I wouldn't change the cam...
At times sorting out mods can be difficult. If the car already has an undiagnosed problem it makes troubleshooting difficult and sorting out the mod a PITA.
Besides its a long stretch from replacing opti to R/R (removing and replacing) the cam.
However, if I were going to replace the cam, I'd pull the engine IOT ensure everything was done correctly. The good news is LT1/4 can come out the top complete.
without removing the headers, hood, radiator etc
...and its easier to degree the cam and set the lifter preload on the engine stand than in the car.
