Default Idle issue solved

Some of you know I have been having a couple issue lately. I first have a fuel pressure drop off issue. Pressure goes up to about 47 and then falls like a rock. Then all of a sudden, well not really all of a sudden, I have a no idle issue.

I couldn't complete the fuel pressure test adequately until I got the idle issue resolved. I at first thought they may be related but I then decided they were a separate issue. I narrowed it down to the IAC.

Well I ordered a new IAC yesterday and picked it up today. Guess what? It was the wrong one. So I called them and after they calmed me down they ordered a new one.

So I said the heck with it. I got the carb cleaner out and cleaned up the old one and put it back in. The dang thing now idles. It isn't 100% but it does idle at what I would consider 75%. So the thing still isn't working properly but I know what the issue was.

So tomorrow I will install the new IAC and see if that totally cures it but from all indications it should as it is now idling with a cleaned IAC.

I hope this helps someone in the future if you ever should do a search and come across this thread. You may PM me to speak directly to me and I will give you my phone number!!

I will come back tomorrow and give an update.

Now back to that pressure thing!

It's always good to hear success stories. I've been fighting idle issues forever. A new IAC didn't work for me.

Be sure and clean the housing the IAC goes into real good too. That's where most of the crud is anyway.

Just make sure you set the IAC before you install it , if its not already set..The pintle can't be out to far or you will damage it when you install it..I believe the setting is (28mm) out, but check to make sure. Below is a copy of the FSM install procedure for a 90 Corvette in case you need it.. .WW

Installed the IAC today and it did fix my idle issue, so you all know

these were my symptoms.

When I cranked it, it would not start. If I gave it the slightest bit of throttle it would fire up and run like a champ. In the beginning if I kept throttle it would eventually work itself out. But then it got to where it wouldn't idle period. Like I said if I gave it slight throttle it would run great and it ran great on the highway.

When I took the IAC out the pintle was fully extended and I didn't think that was right, and it wasn't. It is my understanding they contract so that air will flow immediately upon crank and start.

So there you have it if anyone has these symptoms now or in the future.

Sorry to revive the thread. But did you ever put an ohm meter across the IAC terminals to see if it was bad?
