Default LT1 questions

Ok first off i'm swapping an LT1 into my 84'. The engine i got was said to be a 95' (pre OBD-2) but it has a CPS on the timing cover. I know that all i have to do to run OBD-1 is just not connect the CPS. But i need a harmonic balancer hub and i guess there's 2 diff ones... One for an LT1 w/ the CPS and one for the LT1 without. Can i use either or considering i'm not going to be using the CPS? or do i need the newer style hub? Thanks

It must be a '96 LT1. I don't believe the '95 had a CPS. The '96 hub is shorter because it had a CPS. There is a reluctor ring inside the timing cover that causes it to be shorter. The CPS can be tuned out in the PCM and the ring removed. I did this for a double roller timing chain just recently. If you do this without using the DR you'll have to use the '95 hub. Leave the ring in and use the '96 hub. Just make sure the belt lines up with the other pullies the hub fully seated.

Also i am wondering if i need to change the LT1 fuel injectors when i upgrade the motor? I am going to run a cc503 cam most likely with a lightly porting intake(gasket matched). Long tube headers, 3" exhaust. Stock iron heads(maybe), and a Tune.

It would not hurt to get 28lb. injectors but if the stock ones are in good shape they will handle a cam/bolt on motor. I did a H/C with all the bolt-ons and needed to use 32lb injectors and a 255lh pump.

Ok i have been searching about getting new wheels on my 84', I keep seeing mixed opinions and facts. I just plainly want to know what i need to run ZR1 wheels on my 84'. Or maybe Z06 wheels on my 84'. Or even C6 wheels on my 84'. Do they all need/use the same items to work or does each wheel need different spacing/adapters, etc. I am greatly confused and need help! lol

The wheel offset is different on your 84, but the bolt pattern is the same. You will need spacers to use 88-96 or C5 wheels .

What size spacers? Thanks for the straight-forward info.

Also would these be good heads for an LT1 using a cc503 cam?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-P...Q5fAccessories

They are off brand heads but the flow numbers seem pretty good, and will be cheaper then porting, valve job on my stock LT1 heads. (plus i don't have alum heads i have the cast iron ones)

Wheel spacers.

These will allow you to use 88-96 wheels. 84-87 used 38mm offset, 88-96 used 56mm.

Now...as I'm reading your post again, I'm understanding you want to use ZR1 wheels. According to this article from Corvette Fever, the ZR1 wheels did have the 38mm offset, and should be a bolt on for 84-87 Corvettes.

I didn't realize that the original ZR1 wheels used this offset....I was under the impression that they were 56mm like other 88-96 wheels. Learn something new every day. But if you're using reproduction wheels, do make note of the offset.

Hope this clarifies things.

What size spacer do i need to run Z06 wheels off of a C5? What do you do for adapters? Not trying to sound dumb but i have no idea about the spacers/adaptors haha. And when it comes to wheels if one falls off you can die so its kinda a big deal to me. haha

Most are attracted to those heads because of the price. Questions on those heads come up very often and a GOOGLE etc., search will probably give you some actual feed-back from guys who are running them. Make GOOGLE your friend.

The first thing that concerns me about them is the casting material. Are we talking top of the line virgin aluminum which meets high industry specs (forgot the spec #, but check Dart's site for it). Or are we talking re-cycled beer cans?

Last summer, when I was in the market for a pair of heads for my son's 96 LT1, I looked at them and took a PASS!

Hope this helps.

Jake

Jon FIC pointed me to his 32# Bosch III.

My combo is very similar.

355
ported heads
ported intake
CC305 (Almost identical to your cam , but uses the older magnum lobe technology)
52 mm TB
All the other goodie bolt ons.

I would rather over buy one size on the injectors and allow the tune to handle it then to buy too small and be SOL.
