I am looking to do a intake upgrade and would like to know which is best for street performance. I am in between the Lingenfelter Superram and LONG TUBE setup. Will be used for street.
i was in your same spot something like 5 months ago
i was a tpi (longtube) nutswinger,i like torque,i love it
i didnt want to get out of it,i did lots of research and
yes torque is king on the street, sometime i would like to test my car
on the strip,i learned that the longtube setups are the slowest at the tracks
The Super ram is a PITA to install,so what,i can learn and do it,so what !
The miniram loses low down torque specially if yours is a 350-355
Doesnt matter on 383 or bigger engines, they have torque to giveaway !
So..that wasnt my case..so MR was out for me.
i chose the SR,best of both worlds,instant torque,nice mpg,good power
and its a favorite,i know you all say its terrible to install and leak...but
if you do the things right and calm, you can work it out !
i call it a Mid-Length runner,not to short,not too long
its the best for street/strip !
i remember someone told me that Longtubes makes you think you are going fast
but thats for the first meters, then you run out of air and thats it
the SuperRam has the ability to breath better...thats JMO
What you guys say ???
btw....while i was doing my intake upgrade,it was a good thing that they let me know that
if my intake breathes good,i need good breathing heads, and a nice breathing cam ...and ...a good exhaust...so im throwing a lot of stuff to this upgrade
but you can do it on stages,i got wild and here we are !!! a couple of months later but im about to get back on the road !
This debate comes up often, most of us have gone thru it.
If you ca afford the SR that is for sale right now, I say get it. Yes there have been some cheaper, (because some will say I got mine for...) A mini is a great upgrade.(never had one), but the SR is designed to cure most of the flaws of your stock intake.
You won't just notice loads of power with it though on a stock motor, but when you add:
1.6 RR's
LT headers
heads
cam
You will be able to get about 425chp on your 350.
some 383 strokers with the stock tpi can't make that. Put a SR on that, and let it happen.

Good answer, I like I think Ima get it. But then I have to spend 3K more for the Cam, LT headers, 1.6rr and heads.
You need to take a systematic approach. What are your long term goals. The SR intake by itself will probably help a little (the shorter runners move the powerband up along rpm scale) but a cam swap along with the intake upgrade would give you alot more power.

had the Edelbrock runners/baseplate (not the SR I admit) dynoed it, raced it, got beat at the track.... even with a hi-performance build as you see in my modifications listed below. I went to the mini-ram and changed out to 3.73 gears......all of this "loss of torque" business down low......throw that out the window........the cars hits 60mph unbelievably fast......the mini coupled with the gears makes the accelaration better throughout the entire RPM range....my 1/8 and 1/4 miles times improved dramatically (0.5 seconds in the quarter over the Edelbrock).......13.3's on average vs. 12.8's on street tires and crappy 60 foot times........runs right along my neighbor's 2004 Commerative Z06 and he is running the Billy Boat cat back...both cars are neck and neck.......he used to stomp me from start to finish........the mini is for me but I run it up to high RPM as I have a balanced and blueprinted rebuilt motor that spins up quickly and smoothly........It seems the SR is a good comprimise with budgets, etc. however, which seems to make it the intake of choice for many as you see here.....just my experience here......I do think you would enjoy the SR as well...both are good upgrades
Wicked low end, you dont need stupid low gears in the back to make it so you arent screaming on the highway. And it pulls to well past 5500. Then if you want to go real wild, port the snot out of it and get some big heads and cam, and you are set.
