does anyone know if an 86 cluster will work in an 85?

Yes it will. If you have an auto the cluster might tell you to shift once in awhile, I just ignore it.

my 85 is an auto,i have a chance to by an 86 working cluster for 100 bucks.its out of an 86 vert,auto also

The shift light is a function of the ECM prom. The dash is only a repeater until you talk cruise control.
