Default Operating Temperature....

Guys,

What's the standard operating temperature range for a stock '94? Maybe I'm use to my other cars running cooler, but it just seems a little warm to me. Also, at what temp does the fan come on? I was told that the car has two fans, one that comes on when the AC is on, and the other one which is temp activated. Is there a way to change the temp the fan comes on?? Hypertech Power-Programer? Also, I was told that if I chnaged the thermostat to a lower one, say 160*, that there was something I'd have to change in the computer to make it work/run right?? Sorry for all the n00bie questions, I'm just a little new to the C4's.

Yes, these cars run hot for emissions. Anything over 235 and i get worried. Install a 160 tstat, which i strongly recommend for anybody in GA, bc it gets hotter down there than up here. Your main fan comes on at 225 and the auxiliary fan comes on a little higher than that if the AC isnt running. You can buy the Power Prog. and have it turn your fan settings to the temp you wish, 190-200 is about right. The PP is needed to make good use of the 160 but you dont actually have to have it.

The above post is correst.. however if you get the 160 thrmostate, & do not reprogram the fans, your motor will only run cooler while your speed is 40+ mph, if you are driving in traffic the 160 wil NOT help unless you reprogram the fans to go on sooner..

Are stationed at ft gordon? I was in Augusta for almost a year and a half before I went to Japan.
Have you ever been to Carolina Speedway up in Jacksonville? I used to frequent that strip on the weekends with my T/A.

I'm not in the military. Born and raised in Augusta. I make it over to Carolina Dragway about 2-3 times a month. If my crappy website wasn't down right now I'd say go there to check out some videos of my TTA and some friends cars running there. What kind of TA did you have?

Mine seemed to run a bit warmer that most. Typically it ran 213 moving and 225 in stop & go traffic (with AC on). Once running up a mountain in 2nd gear at about 3500' in August chasing a Z06 it hit 257. I slowed immediately shifted to D and the temps dropped back to the 220-225 range.

Since I put in the Meziere pump my temps seem to be 10-15 degrees cooler in the range of 195-207.

Runnin in the 200-225 range is very typical of these cars. I went to great lengths to get my 84 running at a steady 189 goin to 201 with A/C on in summer standstill traffic. I am waiting to see how the 90 is.I was told that 211 is the optimum operating temp for peak performance. I personally don't agree but vette guys who i listen to insist its true. I know it a different car but the 84 ran wonderful cooler. :)

I guess I must be lucky. Mine has the 160 stat with the Hipertech chip and it runs at 160 all day long. On highway's at 70mph, it never goes above about 135. Last summer in 80 deg heat in stop and go traffic, it never went above 180 :)
