Do these usually go bad and is there anything that I can try before replacing. I have taken it out and everything is tight. Is there any kind of fuse that may need to be replaced or something small I could start out with? It shows no speed or gas gauge or anything. It just went blank. It does light up however. Help would be appreciated as I am a new corvette owner with limited knowledge. If anyone has a cluster to get rid of, let me know. The year is 1990. Thanks.
Try these guys for repairs of the cluster: http://www.instrumentclusters.com/
After all the LCD segments go flakey, it's nice to know somebody can fix it.
They repaired Wifey's 91 coupe's cluster and I'm happy too.
Well, none of the tips from batee. com apply to my problems. It is only for 84-89 anyways.....Anything else I can try? Thanks
I'm surprised nobody jumped on that yours was a '90. If you've gone through the cluster's wiring harness pigtail with a voltage meter and have the correct outputs up to the cluster itself and are now convinced that you have a "cluster" problem then I recommend picking up a good "used" 90 - 92 cluster off of flEabay and doing a swap. The early ones are harder to find than the 94-96 versions. Beware that some that are "for sale" on that famous auction site may have issues/problems which the seller conveniently forgets to mention...that is why some are up for grabs for cheap $....not all but some. flEabay is buyer beware for the most part....you could get lucky though.
Don't know if this helps or not...The problem I had on my '90 was that the numbers would jump all around then settle down, tried everything, finally phoned Gordon Killebrew before dropping money on a new cluster. He asked me to check the ground on the ignition coil, had a bad coil. problem solved

I have exactly the same problemon my -89 convertible, the background light is working but all gauges including speed and revs are dead.
any suggestions anybody? I doubt that all gauges are broken, more likely a common problem.

We repair all 90-96 clusters for $225, unless the LCD is bad. GMComputers @770-777-1031
Thanks appreciate the information. My problem is twofold, the LCD part might apply, mine just disappears rather than scramble, but the check guages part has me concerned. Still might be connected.
