Default Mufflers

I just bought a pair of '89 GM stock mufflers take offs from 1990 in like new condition, when I got home I checked inside the tailpipes and found one pipe blocked on each. These were from a NY car with Z-51. I called the guy back, he said all '89s came like that. How much power will I loose with that. My car is an '86 with replacement mufflers now that have true duals ( one bad).

The secondary plug was standard I do believe.. keeps the resonance down! Drill out the thing and you may just here some more noise... not too bad though.. even pick up 2-3hp.

I have a 91 and my stock mufflers have the block too with a small hole in it. I took a hole saw and put the 1/4" pilot bit in the small hole and just cut the metal away that the saw made contact with which was a circle cut about 1/8" wide. It lets some of the exhaust escape there instead of going all the way thru the muffler chambers. It makes it a little louder and it breaths better with just a little resonance. If you want more just use two different size hole saws, one just larger than the existing hole, and one just to the outside edge of the tailpipe and it will free it up alot. I did this but it made to much resonance for me so I got some freeze plugs and wedge them back in the tail pipe and it took it almost back to stock. I would try one of the above if the guy want let you return the mufflers.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the responses.
I think I'm going to wait for a while and decide what to do.
