So I brought my '86 home today, and the rear seemed a little sloppy. Its got a new front rack and the steering is tight. The rear feels like it needs new rubber bushings/mounts. While I'm rubbing her down I notice that the drivers tire sticks out of the fender and the pass is a little inside the well? Almost like the rear is in off center. Any explanations?
Using the search fn looks like it's a factory flaw. Car was also taken apart to paint so between them, probably explains the misfit. I think my '69 was a little wonky also. nevermind.....
ok between the hub and the wheel.
you can buy them at racing supply places. they come in 1/8" 1/4" and 1/2" just make sure you have plenty of stud left to put the wheel back on securely. how's that?
like these hxxp://www.performancealloys.com/alloy_wheel_spacers.asp
change the xx to tt. don't how they feel about livelinks here.
you can always jack it up, and take some measurements.
If you think it is adjustable, you can do it.
My 86 is dead on. So it is not necessarily common. They made 40,000 of these every year for 12 years.
You can determine if your bushings/bearings are at fault, but mine has 150,000 miles on it, and it is still square.
I happen to be the third owner, and it had a front end accident with the prior owner, but not bad enough to change the hood, just replace the bumper.......and still square.
I recommend jacking it up and crawling under it.
Your car is 24 years old....if the bushings are original, they are probably mush. Replace with Poly, lube liberally with silicone grease, and get a 4 wheel alignment. You won't believe the difference.
If you want to see what a seriously worn rear suspension bushing looks like, visit my albums...one of my rear dogbones was seriously toast. Better yet...here's the pic.

That's number one on my list. I'm gonna replace bushings, shocks, tires and get it aligned. Great group here in the c4 section. I've had a '69 and an '07, never have spent any time in the c4 rooms. Lots of really great tech. writeups, looking fwd. to my new project. Regarding the offset, I could just look at one side at a time....
