Default Electric cutouts

Anyone running them? I'm installing the old exhaust system minus the resonator back on my '96 during this rear end swap. I'm installing DMH electric cutouts just for the track. I want to connect the power to them from under the console because that's where the switch is going. What is in there that is hot all the time that I can connect the fused 12v wire to?

This is where they are going. Use your imagination please.

You could tap into the cigarette lighter + lead or if you have power seats, tap into the hot+ lead there at one of your bulkhead connectors or use a "Scotch Lok" connector for power.

You might want to consider a 15a or 20a circuit breaker and use it to feed the switch that controls the cutouts. This way if the circuit breaker trips, you won't have to dig for new fuses and chances of using both accessories at the same time overloading the circuit are not likely.

Have you thought about possibly installing the cut-outs further upstream on your exhaust? Probably a little more top end power to be had if mounted somewhere closer to the rear portion of your X pipe instead of at the end of the long run just before the mufflers

Good luck

There are 3 wires under the center console carpet (open the console lid and its right behind the change slots)... There is one ground wire, one wire that is hot all the time, and one that is hot when the ignition is on...

I want to do cutouts also but I am unsure how they will sound. I asked a few months ago if anyone had any videos but no dice... I had the idea to put them right in front of the mufflers and point outward towards the side of the car at a 45 degree angle toward the ground. This way they will be hidden yet the fumes and sound will not get trapped under the car and end up in the cabin.

Keep me updated on your cutouts! I'm very interested! Good luck and when your done post some videos!

Thanks, I forgot about the lighter being there. I like the circuit breaker idea! Would Radio Shack have those?

There just isn't room to install them anywhere else but as shown in the photos. My car is lowered so any reduction in ground clearance is out of the question. Thanks for you input!

These will rarely be used so I'm not worried about any exhaust fumes. Besides, I think they'll look cool from the rear where I'm going to install them. It ain't nothing but a red hotrod anyway......

Oh, don't worry..........I'll have some vid's, dyno runs and pictures. That old system looks pretty ragged now but it will clean up nicely.

Better one's can be had @ NAPA or other bigger name parts stores, Radio Shack may have them but you can bet they will be of poor quality.

One of the reasons I suggested you install your cutouts further upstream on your exhaust is they sound better as well as performing better, dumps that are way towards the rear exiting without mufflers usually sounds "canny" and reminds me of the sound a car makes when a mufflers falls off.

Are you still going to be running catalytic converters? If you are, these actually do quiet down the system quite a bit when you run your cut-outs in the open mode.

I know on the 91's there is a 3 prong lead where you stated but I thought that later cars did away with this accessory harness, can anyone confirm?

I'll check at NAPA then, thanks again!

Yes, bullet cats will be left in place. Well, in a way I guess the muffler is falling off. It'll be what it will be. Just to tight everywhere else and I can't lose anymore ground clearance. Thanks for your input

Just a thought Weave, if you are still using the spare tire compartment make sure the cutouts wont get in the way, especially if you have to put one of your flat tires in there... You said yours is a "red hotrod" so you probably dont need to worry, but just in case I figured I would bring it up...
