Default what is it?

There is a ball shaped device behind the front left bumper . inside the scoop, the furtherest forward aria, under the drivers side headlight when the hood is closed. Looks like some kind of a air pump. Mines making a racket. What the best fix options? (93 Coup) thanks

Are you sure it's the round ball-shaped part? The AIR pump is bolted to the frame rail just about across from it. It's a cone shape. The AIR pump supplies air to the exhaust system as the engine is warming up and will shut off once the ECM goes into closed loop.

The round ball device is a vacuum tank for the cruise control and should not make any noise at all unless it has a leak

The correct term is air pump? Looks like a sealed unit. Any ideas on the best place to buy a replacement?

The air pump is driven by the serpentine belt and is located on the front of the engine next to the alternator.

The round ball under the drivers headlight area is a vacuum canister or reservoir. This is a sealed unit with NO working parts.

That is only true for L98 C4's. The OP said he has a '93 coupe. The LT1's have an electric air pump that is mounted behind the front bumper sort of near the ball-shaped vacuum tank. Looks kind of like a plastic turbocharger.

I have a 93 Coupe also. The Ball is a vacuum accumulator. It has a hose barb on the bottom. No moving parts.

Now a little inboard and to the rear of the ball is an electrically powered blower for the AIR system. If you hear noise in that vicinity it may be that blower assy. Should be able to disconnect it to see if the sound goes away. I have had no trouble with this on mine so I haven't looked into the circuits and/or sensors that make this thing go.

It is the blower for the AIR system. It only runs for about a minute at start up. I'm not sure how critical it is. I could disconnect it. But I would like to fix or replace it, if it is critical to the operation.

It reduces emissions after startup when engines pollute the worst. It does not affect the operation of the engine. Disconnecting it could throw a code. Not sure .

Just disconnect it and see what happends. It shouldn't affect the way the car runs. If there is no code, your good to go. If there is, replace the thing.
