Default Shifts wierd now.

I put 1.6 RR and an AFPR in my car. Now it seems to rev to a higher RPM before it shifts, i have an auto, but it seems to hesitate before shifting. It also seems to be making a a slight rattling noise at the higher RPM (<5000 RPM) which it never seemed to even get to before shifting before. I have the AFPR set at about 48 PSI. Is it getting too rich so the computer messes with the timing or something? It seems to be pulling harder but seems really weird and week at the higher RPMs. If anyone has any suggestions of things to check that would be great.

I'm not an expert in this category, but it could be that you need a tune to adjust your computer's settings. Or it could be the TPI intake, I hear it chokes at higher RPM.

Have you adjusted the TV cable? Higher shifty pints are sometimes the result of a cable not adjusted to "factory"

Don't think it would have anything to do with rattle

Did you change the valve springs?
Are they self-aligning RRs? If so did you remove the stock guide plates?

I'd check the rockers themselves. There is a flat spot on the fulcrum of the RRs (or at least on my Cranes), and if the flat spot is upside down (not in contact with the head) they will loosen. Also, according to Crane, RRs need at least 105# of seat pressure. I bought springs that were not 105# at seat pressure, and the rockers loosened and I bent some pushrods. CC 981s are what I have now.

Yes the RR are self aligning, no i didnt remove the guide plates. when i installed them they didnt seem to be in the way. The RRs came from Summit and had no instructions for install so i printed instructions from the Comp cam site for their aluminum RR. It didnt say to remove guide plates. I take it that it is mandatory to do so. I did put in new pushrods but not springs. The new pushrods were factory length.

I don't believe you have to remove guideplates. I didn't do it on my 88 and no problems, no noises. I would be quite surprised if they rattled at high rpm. Look for something you might not have tightened adequately or two parts of something coming in contact with one another

Did you solve the shift problem?
