I have seen many different people on this forum say that if you have a manual 94-96 that you have a Dana 44, and some say that only the LT4 or ZR1 engines have the Dana 44. Which is it? Or did the LT1 manual come standard with the Dana 36 and the Dana 44 was just a performance option? I'd like to find out what I have and I'm too lazy to go down and look at the codes being I don't even know where to start. Thanx Guyz
As far as i know all manual boxes have dana44, even my 86 4+3
Except as Foolcrzy intimated, 1984's. ALL C4 autos came with a Dana 36. ALL 1985 and up C4 manuals came with Dana 44. ALL 1984's came with Dana 36. Different years had different standard and optional ratios available. The ratio availability was often dependent on other equipment, including the transmission selected. The Dana 44 was NOT an orderable option. The indication that a particular car was built with the Dana 44, (besides the above) is RPO no. G87. G87 says, "GEAR, RING 8.50 INCH". The Dana 44 has an 8 & 1/2" ring gear. The 36 ring gear is less than 7".
Here is a picture of a Dana 44. If you have the same bolt pattern as this (I have circled the bolts to make it easier, wasn't that nice of me?) then you have a 44. The 36 is different. Sorry I don't have a shot of a 36 for you.
If you have the 94 with auto, more than likey you have the 36. Do you have the option tag in your center console under the lid. Congrats on your Vette! :seeya :seeya
Dump Question. Looking at the bolts you circled, is this looking at it from the rear looking forward or are these bolts you circled looking from the front of the car towards the rear?
Thanks
