I'm looking for a source for the engine loom that includes the hook ups for the IAC, TPS, and injectors.
Mine apparently has a short in it that is causing my car to pop, sputter, and eventually die. I thought at first that it was either a bad fuel pump, or ignition. It turn out that I can jiggle the part of the loom that runs beneath the throttle body (near the IAC and TPS hook ups) and make the car run like a million bucks. As soon as I make a hard turn though, I find myself more often than not coasting into the nearest parking lot or off ramp. Yesterday, the tow truck was a couple of blocks away when I jiggled the loom and tried to start the car one last time. Cranked right up and settled into a perfect idle. Drove her home, and that's where she'll stay until I solve this problem 100%.
I figure I'll just skip the whole electrical troubleshooting headache and replace this entire section of loom. The previous owner switched out the L-98 for a ZZ3 crate engine with major mods, but he retained the original loom. It LOOKS like it 'survived' the install intact, but I'd feel better starting with a new wiring harness on this one.
Any idea where to find one at a descent price, and what might it cost? Thanks :)
I helped a friend put one in, he had an engine fire, after searching around fro a harness, he bought a used one from a corvette salvage yard somewhere in Louisiana....he paid around 400-450 for it. I remember the only other place he could find one was the dealer and they wanted 1200 or something like that. The harness doesn't come in sections so you have to replace the entire harness for the engine. It took us all day to do it..
I bet you I know which connector it is! Try your ECT connector. I had the same problem.. the ground on it was shorting out the TPS, MAP, etc... sensors. You can go to a chevy dealer and they can put a new connector on it (or you can buy a connector possibly).
Does your Digital Temperature jump around a lot when it's sputtering and dying?!? If so, it's your problem for sure. It really sucks how those are all connected like that.
I've determined where the ESC (Electronic Spark Control), and EST (Electronic Spark Timing) connectors are. Is it one of these, or is there an ECT connector that I'm not seeing?
It looks like the EST connector is near the distributor. I've found a reference showing that a particular illustrated wire leads to the ESC, but no diagram showing exactly where the ESC connector itself is located. Throw me a bone on this one if ya would :seeya
oops.. i just noticed that you have a ZZ3. I'm not sure about that engine, but an ECT sensor is an Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. On the LT1's it's right on the waterpump (and another in the rear of the passenger side head).
