Going to get the MSD repaired and sell it. Seems it is not very good unless MSD fixed the problems which I doubt unless others can vouch for it on here. I was on the fence when it came to the Dynaspark unit. Looks really nice and will run the factory unit for the next couple years and see what happens. Hope boost has no effect on it. What BENEFIT will the DYNASPARK have on my car. I already have an MSD coil and running a FAST XFI stand alone computer for the turbo 383 motor. All I can see is it may last longer...then again some people are syaing some of the OPTIS can last 50K and others last 200K. I would be happy with 50K...hehe!
my experience with my msd is good for the most part.after about 9000 miles it started to give me problems.backfire, cutting out, missing.so i pull it off and find that there is some play in the big bearing.probally my fault since i had a hard time getting it to seat all the way into the cam and used the bolts to pull it the rest of the way in.stupid on my part.when i got it back from msd it had a different brand bearing in it and the invoice referred to it as "heavy duty blue bearing" and it works great now.if your opti is vented make sure that boost isnt being blow into the opti through the vent line.

Did you have a code 16 or 36.I took mine to the rev limiter twice I think. had a dtc 36 after 650 miles on the new msd.
It is unreal how MSD can rave about their OPTI which is probably worse that the stocker. I have come accross so many FAILURES after very minimal miles.

I think their internals are good, as they make great parts otherwise. I think it is there Opti Sensor. I hear you can by them, made in USA, but generic. Now, GMs use Mitsubishi, and meet OEM requirements....
It SEEMS these Opti units either have crappy bearing or bad sensors. How a company that charges 500 for a distibutor cannot get it RIGHT just is NONSENSE. Especially MSD!!!

no to my surprise during the whole ordeal i never got a light and never stored a code.
this is probally not the greatest thing in the world to do but i have 3.73 and i basically use the rev limiter to control rpms while i drift or when doing burnouts.what im getting at is i dont think going up against the rev limiter is any thing to worry about.

I agree should be able to do It all day long. Should not have to worry about it after you spent $500. and have to tear it all apart again. Tim
Another issue for people that replace there cam at the same time as ther Opti is you must make sure yout cam pin is within spec. I believe it's .620 long. Any more and it will cause premateure bearing failure. From what I was told all CompCams are made to fit the late gen. Opti's. So if you order one for a 92 LT-1 the pin and hole in the end will let you run the vented Opti's. Also I would reccomend from all the post I have read to open any brand up and check the bolts on the rotor.
I put 130K on my factory unit so I decided to stay with stock. I just bought a new A/C Delco on this board for $200.
Wow!!! Good deal $200. I think the stocker was 300 for me. I have not heard from MSD yet and wonder if they are gonna stick it too me after Four hours of use on Repair Fees. I will keep you all posted.

I have owned my MSD for 2 years now. I sent mine back because I suspected it was causing a miss and back fire at start up. They changed the bearing and the sensor and shipped it back for a total charge of $64.00. The downside is this MSD has less than 5000 miles on it. BTW, the bearing did not seam to be bad and let me tell you I have seen plenty of bad bearings on the stock units. I guess they automatically replace the bearings no matter what. Good policy.
This unit is going on a new motor. I plan on adding a groove on the flywheel and a tab on the timing cover. Hope it holds up.
