Default u-joints!

All of my 24 year old never been greased u-joints are noisy. I want to replace them all. I have found no-name brand for as low as $8 a joint up to strange u-joints for $45 each. any recommendations would be much appreciated.

dennys drive shaft company has a u joint set for the c4. what ever you do please dont buy the cheapies. if one of the half shafts break it can cause major damage . the 799 series spicer ujoints are the best bang for the buck .jmho

Spicer seems to be the u-joint of choice. I actually broke a stock u-joint early in my c4 ownership and needed a quick replacement. Unforuntely, it was a over-seas u-joint from the local auto parts store. But It was the "brst" one they had in stock. It hasn't given me any problems, and that's even with some spirited driving.

when it comes times for me to focus my attention on replacement of the joints, I'd definitely consider a quality (American made) set.

Can't go wrong with the Spicers. Make sure you get ones without grease fittings.

Just out of curiosity, why without grease fittings. I just did both rear sides with federal mogul non grease fittings. Cost $90 for all four. They did ask if I wanted grease but for no reason at all I chose non grease. Sounds like I did the right thing, but why?

Having holes drilled for the zerk and thru each nuckle to the cap for greasing of the bearings take away material unlike a solid non-greaseable u-joint. This just naturally creates a weaker joint because there's less material in the joint and they can and will fatigue quicker in high performance applications. That's probably why GM felt the need and installed them at the factory.

Spicer is the way to go with Zerk fittings....stronger. You can still grease them...you just have to take then out!

Best price for the Spicer 5-799X and 3-70-48X strap kit that I found is at Action Machine Inc. They do not have a "kit" so you have to order 4 of each.

Just passing along information.

Edit: the 5-799X are for the half-shafts....not the drive shaft.

Spicer 5-799X are the correct anti-galvanic half-shaft U-joints.

Anti Galvanic or not, its a good price. Great if they are. I need 4 of these, the two for the Dshaft, bushings, clutch pac, etc etc to do this process when I take down the rear end.
