Default Stock LT1 Heads

My dad and I are getting an engine built for the 69 Camaro. While down there I was talking to the machine shop who did the heads for it.

The one guy was saying that if I had an extra set of stock LT1 head he could work them as well as an intake for me.

How "good" will the LT1 heads/intake work if done over?

The intake he would just port/polish (not sure what else), but the heads he says he can port/polish, shave them 20 thousanths, and put in larger valves.

Is this all 100% correct or can the heads not take the larger valves?

Also, would it really make a big difference in power?

Thanks guys!

Thats just it. The work I would have done wouldnt cost that much at all (he is a friend of mine).

Just wondering if it would be worth it or not.

Make sure and have him unshroud the valves before he shaves them back down. How much is $ on the work?

You didn't mention what your block is. Since the car is a '69, I'm assuming its a gen I block.

LT1 heads won't work on a Gen I block w/o extensive modifications. Unless you're talking about LT-1 heads?

Good question, I assumed Gen II because he mented LT1 heads. With e-mail it is very easy to have two people read the same item and come to two different conclusions.

Default These heads are for my LT1 Corvette.....not my 69 Camaro.

Ok, the heads would be for my 94 Corvette. I just mentioned the 69 because we were down there having heads worked on for that. The Camaro is getting pro action heads.

No doubt.

Again, my question is "how much power" and "would it be worth it" to have stock LT1 heads modified for my 94 LT1 Corvette.

What are your honest expectations out of the car?

realistic power goals., track use, fun street car?

Major difference or an all you can get out of it type guy?

Major difference or some added power (at a small cost). Like I said I can get a "deal" on the work.

If I wanted to make REAL power I wouldnt use LT1 heads, nor would I use a stock bottom end. Just want a to get some more power out of the engine as it sits.

If this helps any I can get around 400 rwhp with my '96 when I have Lloyd Elliot redo mine. That's with a mild cam though. I would think it would be worth 45 rwhp anyway. This is just my opinion though. I have no real data to back that up.

I had my stock LT1 heads ported and had new, larger valves put in. When I reattached them to my 383 LT1, with mods listed in my .sig, I was getting 400 RWHP. Those LT1 heads can produce some good power if everything else is also done.
