Am I missing a spring or something? The light assembly won't click and push back.

It's a strange design.
The switch only works if you press the front bottom edge.

It just seems that the white plastic piece that fits inside the electric assembly that looks like a ball point pen, when it is pressed in doesn't push back out against the other piece that pushes against the map light.

There is a very small spring inside of the white plastic component (see photo). When I rebuilt mine the spring shot out when I took it apart. If you don't have it you might try using a magnet in an around the car to see if you can snag it. If not, take the other side apart (carefully) and take out the spring. Use this spring to source a similar spring at your local hardware store. (click on photo to enlarge)

Thanks Pmihaltian, I new there had to be a spring there. I will go to the store and look for one that will fit into the white piece.

It is not a very big or strong spring. I suggest that you take the light in the other door apart and use that spring as a guide. OR call one of the Corvette salvage parts guys and purchase an old light fixture that you can cannibalize the old spring out of.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
