That is a debate that will run on for centuries. I have a 52mm; works fine for me, and I have a 383. The only way to know for sure would be to run around, duplicating the driving conditions the engine would see the most with both TB's, and keep the one that impresses you the most.
I have heard that the stock TB was good to over 400 HP thru past posts on this Forum. I am running the 52 MM TB on my ZZ4...close to your engine configuration without any problems.
Actually I've got the Ford EVO 24#. I've not logged any runs yet to see if they will supply the fuel I need, but I sure hope they will. I think at our pressure they actually flow around 25#s
I had similar mods on my '92, and originally went with a 52MM, then switched to a 58MM. About a week later I went back to the 52MM because the car felt slower in the lower RPM range, and about the same at redline.
the stock TB should be large enough for a stock 350 and lightly modified. The 52 seems a good alternative for larger modifications. If using too large TB the engine seems to respond very welland accelerates hard (this is a feeling that we are conned about. The reason is that for a smaller angle on the butterflies in the TB there are more air to the engine so when the TB is maybe 3/4 of full throttle there is not more to get from the engine because there are limitations on how much air a 350 or 383 can suck due to rpm's.
It is easy to believe that it is the engine getting more power, but it is only that with less throttle pedal there will be more air and that makes the feeling that the engine is stronger. It will be the same as giving more throttle on the stock TB.
