I plan on replacing the intake gasket on my 89 vette within the next month or so (still winter here in NY) and was wondering if it the outside temp should be over a certain mark ???
I did mine over the winter last year before I bought a C5. I used the "Right Stuff" for the end gaskets. Best stuff I have ever found. I also used Hylomar on the side gaskets per Permatex tech rep recommendation. Take your time re-installing plenum bolts as they are at angles. Also, on the runners, each side has one bolt that installs from the inside out. On the driver's side, it is in the rear, on the passenger side it is in the front. Also a good time to replace the water pump if you haven't, since it is pretty well exposed at the point you get everything apart.
I believe that the warmer the better. I did mine last month, however, I did it at a friends garage, one kerosine heater and we were nice and warm!
also, let the car sit 12+ hours for the RTV to set up before realy running. you can start it, ok, but only to prove it is ok., don't let it run more than 10 or 15 seconds or so...
