Default R12 or R134

I will be replacing my A/C compressor next week and I'm undecided if I should stay with R12 or convert to R134 I have a 30lb jug of R12 ready to use so which freon is not important other then the cost of buying R134

I plan to sell this car within the year and thought maybe the next owner would be better off if it had R134 rather then R12 I know R12 cools better then R134 and I live in the south so that's a factor too......the A/C system will be almost new and tight (no leaks).....what are your thoughts ???

(" I'm CFC 12 certified also" )

I thought R12 was more valuable than Gold. If I had it available, I might not have switched.

The only problem I had after converting was that the low pressure sensor went bad. Not sure if that was related but I heard that can happen. I have been happy with the performance of R134 here in the Florida Inferno.

If you are going to sell the car, why give the "Gold" away? Convert it.

Am also CFC 12 certified. Suggest leaving the 12 in if the system is tight.

If a new owner experiences AC problems he/she can have it converted at the time it is repaired.

R12 is still available but, a lot of shops don't pay for the certification needed to buy it because they'd rather do the 134a conversions.

Stay with the r-12, less head pressure in stop and go traffic means cooler temps coming out of you're vents. Even more important if you live warmer climates.

I converted to 134 and live in FL, car takes a long while to cool(about 7-8 minutes) in 90+ temps, but once cool, it stays cool no matter what type of traffic I am in.

I have decided to stay with R12 rather then convert to R134 then I'll save the cost of converting and the compressor comes with ester oil which will work with either freon ....R12 is proven to remove more heat then R134 (A/C's don't cool they remove heat) when in slow moving traffic so since I have the freon R12 I'll use it.....Thanks guys

You have to understand that you're only going to get a 20 degree difference from the air going into you're return and the supply air coming out . So if you have a 100 degree cabin temp you're going to get 80 degree air coming out of you're vents. You have a tremendous heat load trying to cool down you're carpet leather ect. thats why it takes a while to cool.
