Big Problem!?

Okay so I have an '84 Vette that I bought as a project car. Anyway, I have gotten it to start running. However, if it does anything other than Idle, the engine sounds horrible. It knocks and clanks...etc...Am I in big trouble here or does this sound like an ignition or timing issue? Thanks.

So, when you bought it you didn't ask too many questions? Clanking and knocking are generally bad. How old is the fuel? Does it have oil pressure? What is the oil pressure? Have you checked for vacumm leaks etc?

Could be something as simple as a loose bracket, exhaust, bad cat....oe worse. Usually if its a engine knock youll hear it at idle also.
Check one thing at a time.
