My Excuse for Excess
I am the perfect case. The EGR valve on my '88 went out a few months ago...and somehow I decided that this was reason enough to rebuild. :D
Speed Demon is the means behind this process.
This is what Chris and I have planned:
- 396 rotating assembly
- SRP pistons
- Super Ram intake/base
- AFR 190 Stage II heads
- Cam
- Arizona S&M 58mm Throttle Body
- 30# injectors
- 1.6 Roller Rockers
- Hooker 1 3/4" headers
- and all the other goodies that I'm forgetting (fuel pump/oil pump/etc.)
Besides this I'm currently replacing the rack & pinion, front suspension bushings (polyurethane), sway bar bushings, upper lower ball joints, tie rod ends, and shocks.
Let me know what you think (i.e. reassurance)

While repairing the line a combination of circumstances and "while I'm at it, I might as well" led me to do the following:
- Rebush the entire front end with poly bushings.
- Grind casting marks out of aluminium suspension arms.
- Polish suspension arms.
- Polish inside of stock rims.
- Paint swaybar and swaybar link brackets.
- Repaint steering rack.
- Replace all o-rings in steering rack.
- Replace pressure line on steering rack.
- Paint brake discs
- Clean front calipers.
- Paint wheel bearing assemblies.
- Bought camber brace (haven't installed yet).
- Polish and clearcoat steering intermediate shaft.
- Repaint frame windscreen? supports.
- Repair rubber fuel lines (luckily I found that they were rubbing on the steering shaft (RHD converted car) before they ruptured    .
- R&R front spring and reinstall lowering wedges after one fell off during disassembly.
- Polish spring protector brackets.
- New lower ball joints (bought new uppers but the old ones are okay so they weren't changed).
- A whole lotta cleaning and detail painting.
Thats all I can remember, I think I covered everything...

It sounds like you have an aesthetically pleasing engine compartment (especially your suspension)
You put a lot of work into the control arms, etc. Do you have any photo's?

I really regretted starting the polishing about halfway through grinding the casting marks off the arms. Between the time it took and the aluminium shavings I had all over the garage, myself and in my clothes I couldn't finish that part of the job soon enough . I wound up having someone else polish them for me.
I took pics of the front suspension but face a bit of an uphill battle posting them. My scanner is down right now and I have only had a few of the progress pics I took developed so far. When I get them scanned I plan on posting a few of them here to see what you guys think. Hopefully in the next week.
