Some guys do the adjustment on how the car shifts, others try the self adjusting method, & some hook a pressure gauge to the tranny & adjust it to a certain pressure under load.
The self adjusting method doesn't always work, but what you do is press the release button on the cable(it's right where the cable goes through the throttle bracket), pull the cover part of the cable out til it tight, then release the button. Go inside the car & fully depress the gas pedal, maybe alittle hard to press. This procedure doesn't always work.
I like to adjust the cable 1 click at a time & drive, feel the shift firmness & make sure you can still open the throttle 100%, might take alittle driving to get it right.
if the tv cable is set ok, then I think its time for overhaul ...
I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just yet. Did your fluid smell burnt before you changed it? Was the trans slipping from 2-3 before it stopped shifting altogether? Either of those symptoms could indicate an overhaul, but I'd want to be sure before you throw that kind of money at it. Have a pro check it out.

this is how I bought the car from the previous owner, the car was sitting for over 6 years, the previous owner cant remember what happend with the transmision, I did not check the fluid for anything , but still the car reach over 30mph in 2nd and it didnt feel like slipping and thats it its not even trying to change to 3rd regardless of speed/rpm ... will check TV cable for adjusment this weekend
can someone please explain what the function of the TV cable is with the manual tans? found mine to be broken today and will have to replace it. How hard of a job is this? And who carries them cause ecklers does not.

The job itself isnt too bad...but NOBODY has that cable...I've been looking for a year (mine has a kink in it) with no luck. It's been discontinued from GM for several years, and all the major Corvette suppliers havent stocked it in an equal amount of time. I guess our only recourse is to spend $1500 and upgrade the OD's to the 88 style that did away with the cable

Well that is one thing that I cant afford to change. If i was going to do that I would be ahead to change out engine and trans together but then you are talking more than the car is ever going to be worth. Where they used in any other cars? or what makes them unique that you cant make a new one? I still have it installed, just the cable is cut under the car. Would it be worth or possible to use a nicopress and just fix it?
can anybody explain to me in simple words how to check and adjust the TV cable if necessary on my '91 corvette ?
The procedure is you push down on the little 'tab' that holds in the end of the tip end of cable shield. It is just behind the exposed section of the cable that attaches to the throttle body. Sorry I don't have a picture. Pushing this tab will cause the end of cable shield to pop forward a small bit. Then you push the accelerator pedal to the floor (engine off for all of this). You will hear a little ratchet noise. That is the mechanism adjusting. The key is to make sure your throttle is wide open. If you want, you can just do it by hand instead of the pedal. If your throttle does not go to full wide open, then it is not properly adjusted.
